Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the role of Generation Z in the development of community-based waqf programmes utilising digital technology. The research employs a literature review-based qualitative method, analysing relevant current literature. The main focus is on Generation Z's potential in promoting and managing waqf through digital platforms, their engagement models through social media and crowdfunding, and their role in supporting transparency and accountability of waqf programmes.

The results show that Generation Z has great potential as agents of change in Islamic philanthropy, particularly community-based waqf. They utilise digital technology to expand the reach of waqf promotion and raise funds more effectively. However, significant challenges were identified, such as low waqf literacy among Generation Z and regulatory barriers. Proposed strategies to overcome these challenges include increased education through digital platforms, gamification to increase motivation, and community-based approaches to strengthen the sense of social responsibility.

In conclusion, Generation Z is a potential asset in advancing community-based waqf programmes through technological innovation. However, the success of this initiative requires collaboration between various stakeholders, including waqf institutions, the government, and the private sector, to create an enabling environment for Generation Z's active participation. The findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the role of the younger generation in Islamic philanthropy and provide strategic guidance to increase their participation.
